Knocking on the doors of psychiatric establishments as Nearest Relative.

This article (see link above) is a moving, illuminating and heart breaking account of a mother’s encounters and attempts, as her daughter’s nearest relative, to have her voice heard. She describes the resistance, dismissal, evasion and sheer lack of comprehension she was so often met with, and calls for more recognition and understanding, asking that “we as relatives and the staff in hospitals stretch our hands and hearts towards each other on an everyday basis, not just on Christmas Day. ”
